SEW commended for innovation and retention at the World HRD Congress

The World HRD Congress was organized from 16th to 18th February 2012 in Mumbai. This three-day congress was attended by Senior HR Leaders from across key industries and prominent sectors. Awards were conferred upon organizations which demonstrated excellence through their innovative programs, showing clear and measurable business results. The World HRD Congress Awards aim to celebrate leading organizations, impactful HR practices that have achieved overall effectiveness in their HR functions.

Our organization got the award under three categories viz: Award for Innovation Retention Strategy under Best Employer 2011-12, Award for Learning and Talent Initiative Excellence under HR and Leadership Award for Excellence in Human Resource Development and HR Leadership Award which was given to Mr. T.S. Babu, Sr. Vice President - HR, under HR Leadership Award Category

The jury at the World HRD Congress as well as leaders from other corporates appreciated our CARE Model and mentioned that it is a good initiative to bring about such practices in our organization. They further added that this is a good way to connect with our employees and understand their requirements.

It is because of the continuous support we get from our project sites to improve employee engagement that we have been able to implement this initiative and make it a regular practice to recognize the efforts of our employees and reward the top performers. We look forward to a similar kind of support from them in the future as well to fulfill our endeavor to make this organization a Great Place to Work.

National Industrial Relations Conference at XLRI Jamshedpur

XLRI Jamshedpur, one of India's most respected business management schools, has been a pioneer in the field of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations since its inception and has produced some of the finest HR Managers in the industry today. Since, the Industrial Relations scenario is getting volatile sporadically in certain locations and with the Ministry of Labor and Trade Unions focusing on improving the working conditions and controlling exploitation in service and unorganized sector, the institute conducted the National industrial Relations Conference in association with TATA Steel on 14th and 15th of January, 2012. Top Government officials from the Ministry of Labor and representatives from National Level Trade Unions and industry representatives were invited to deliberate on this emerging issue, also to discuss the stakeholders' take on this.

From our organization, Mr. T.S. Babu, Sr. Vice President - HR was invited to this conference as one of the eminent speakers. The other speakers invited were Dr. Ratna Sen, Former Professor, IISWBM, Calcutta University,

Mr. T.K Panda (Under Secretary, Labour and Employment, Government of Orissa), Mr. G.D. Nadaf( General Secretary AIBOC and AISBOF), Mr. Ranendra Goswami (Head HR and Administration, Apollo health and lifestyle) and Mr. Karthik Shekhar (General Secretary, UNITE professionals).

Mr. T.S. Babu spoke on the changing perspectives of the Employers, Employees, Trade Unions and the Government over the last four generations ie: Traditionalists (1925 - 1945), Baby Boomers (1946 - 1964), Gen X (1965 - 1980) and millennial generation (Gen Y) (1981 and after). He further added that though all our stakeholders have evolved over generations, there was a need for the Trade Unions to focus more on gaining through partnership strategies rather than through threat of consequence.

Another highlight of the conference was 'SAMEEKSHA' - National Level Paper Presentation Competition on the same theme, which attracted entries from B-schools across the country. The competition was judged by Mr. T.S. Babu, Mr. Ranendra Goswami and Mr. Karthik Shekher.

Agreement for Development of a New Berth Signed
February 3, 2012

A concession agreement was signed on 3rd Febraury, 2012 by Mr.Ajeya Kallam, I.A.S., Chairman, Visakhapatnam Port Trust and Mr.D.Sai Prasad, Vice President, SEW Vizag Coal Terminal Pvt. Ltd for the development of East Quay 1A (EQ - 1A) Berth in the Inner Harbour, under Design, Build, Finance, Operate & Transfer (DBFOT) basis. Mr.G.V.L.Satyakumar, I.R.T.S., Deputy Chairman, and other Senior Officers from the Visakhapatnam Port Trust and Mr. A.P.V.N.Sarma, I.A.S (Retd.), Consultant, Mr.Lalit Arora, Vice President- Business Development and Mr.Anupkumar, Associate Vice President- VPT Project from SEW Infrastructure Ltd., alongwith Mr.Muhammad Abdullah Hatta Bin Bulat, Chief Financial Officer, West Ports Malayasia Sdn Bhd, were present on the occasion.

The project is being developed on a Public-Private patnership.

SEW Vizag Coal Terminal Private Limited is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) incorporated by SEW Infrastructure Limited - PRSB (Malaysia) Consortium to develop EQ-1A berth. SEW Infrastructure Limited - PRSB (Malaysia) Consortium was selected by Visakhapatnam Port Trust, after stringent technical and financial scrutiny under global bidding process, as per the guidelines of the Government of India.

SEW Infrastructure Limited has joined with PRSB (Malaysia), one of the reputed companies in South East Asia, with vast experience in port operations. PRSB has been operating the Klang port in Malaysia, which has been identified as one of the major ports in South East Asia successfully over the last 10 years. PRSB has the reputation of managing large port operations, particularly bulk material under its flagship company Westports Malaysia Bhd. The world class expertise and knowledge of PRSB ( Malaysia) in mechanization, automation and port management technologies will be automatically extended to this project.

SEW Vizag Coal Terminal Private Limited will Design, Build, Finance and Operate EQ-1A berth as a coal terminal to cater to the needs of various coal users, particularly thermal coal for power sectors for 30 years. It will be designed to handle 7.36 Million Metric Tons of coal per year. The berth will be operational with fully mechanized systems like ship loaders, wagon tippler stations, stacker reclaimers, conveyor systems etc. The berth will be built as per the best standards of the industry with special emphasis on best Safety and Environment measures. This berth will be installed with fire protection system, water and sludge management system and a dedicated green belt to make the berth friendly to the environment and neighborhood, which is an essential requirement in developing such facilities. The berth will be fully operational within 27 months after the design, construction and erection of mechanical system during this development period.

Infrawhiz 2011

Since Hyderabad has been a hub for most infrastructure companies in India, SEW Infrastructure Ltd., being one of the prominent infrastructure companies, took the initiative to launch INFRAWHIZ 2011, a one-of-its-kind National Inter-Corporate event for all the infrastructure and allied companies. This event was inaugurated on 14th October 2011. Mr. V.B. Gadgil, CEO & Managing Director - L&T Metro Rail was the Chief Guest and Mr. Vikram Doshi, Executive Director - KPMG, India was the Guest of Honor for the inauguration.

In his welcome address Mr. V. Rajasekhar, Managing Director, SEW Infrastructure Limited, stated that this particular contest is an endeavour to bring the various infrastructure companies to a common platform and share their experiences and ideas, related to the infrastructure field, amongst themselves. He also lauded and commended the efforts of the entire HR team for initiating such an event, the first of its kind so far in Hyderabad.

More than100 participants representing 25 infrastructure companies from across the country participated enthusiastically in both these contests. Some of these companies were Lanco Infratech Pvt. Ltd, Gurgaon, L&T Infrastructure Development Projects Ltd, Chennai, GMR Group, GKC, GVK, NCC Ltd, Ramky Infratech Ltd., IVRCL etc. to name a few.

The Winner's Trophy was bagged by L&T Infrastructure Development Projects Ltd., Chennai and SEW Infrastructure Ltd. was the Runner-Up. For INQUIZIT, the Quiz contest, the Winners were Lanco Group, Gurgaon and L&T Metro Rail Ltd. was declared as the Runner-Up.

Safety Performance Award - 2011 Celebration of 10 Million Safe Man Hours - 2011

SEW @ Oracle Open World

Oracle Corporation is world's largest software company with an estimated worth of $150 billion, specializes in developing and marketing enterprise products, headquartered just south of San Francisco in the Silicon Valley of California, United States.

Oracle holds a conclave annually in San Francisco where over 50,000 delegates from all over the world attend to hear the leaders in the IT industry such as Larry Ellison, founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, Joseph M Tucci, CEO, EMC, Michael Dell, founder CEO, Dell Computers, John Chambers, President & CEO, Cisco.

Among other speakers, some of the Oracle customers are also invited to present their thoughts and experience in implementing Oracle software in their respective organizations.

SEW was invited from India to present its experience in the utilization of Oracle's tools to introduce innovation in the Indian infrastructure industry.

On behalf of SEW, Mr. Sidhartha Meka, CIO shared the stage with Leighton Contractors and AJ Lucas of Australia at the Oracle OpenWorld 2011, held between the 2nd - 6th of October.

During the conference Mr. Sidhartha presented on how the nationwide multi-project cross-functional integration of processes using an ERP can yield benefits such as workflow standardization, improved visibility, timely alerts etc.

He also discussed the need to build additional capabilities into the Oracle product suite such as day to day job control, expenditure accounting, improvements in billing workflows, support for mobile devices based on intermittent wireless signals etc.

Also, SEW has been nominated to be part of Oracle's Product Strategy Council. The council constitutes a group of 11 companies, from all over the world. This council collaborates with Oracle on their future product strategy.

SEW is the only company from Asia to be part of the council.

SEW Academy of Construction setup at Jharkhand, Ranchi

SEW entered into an MOU with the Govt. of Jharkhand on 30th August 2011 to provide free training cum employment opportunities to the underprivileged youth of Jharkhand. To facilitate this, a training institute was inaugurated on 13th November, 2011. Nearly 104 candidates registered for the training. The Govt. of Jharkhand promised to provide boarding and lodging expenses for candidates who are registered for free Training cum Employment in SAC-Ranchi. Initially, the candidates will be undergoing training at our SAC, Balanagar, Hyderabad. A.P. for a period of 45 days with free lodging and boarding facilities and a stipend of `. 1,500 per month. Thereafter they will be sent to our sites located across the country for On-Job training for another 45 days with free accommodation and subsidized food and `.100 stipend per day. After the successful completion of the training program, these candidates will be deputed to work at our project sites with a monthly remuneration of `. 5000. Training for the first batch of 29 candidates has been on since 1st February, 2012.

Ramunia and SEW sign India deal

Malaysian oil and gas services provider Ramunia Holdings subsidiary RFSB will join with SEW to jointly bid for contracts. The two-year deal will see the companies collaborate on engineering, design, procurement and fabrication contracts for oil and gas structures and facilities, and any others, in India.

Fitch affirms SEW Infrastructure's rating at 'AA-(ind)'

Fitch Ratings has today affirmed SEW Infrastructure Ltd's (SEW) National Long Term rating at 'AA-(ind)'. The Outlook is Stable. Fitch has also affirmed SEW's INR2.04bn fund- based working capital limits and INR0.29bn term loans at 'AA-(ind)', and its INR15.11bn non fund-based working capital limits at 'AA-(ind)' /'F1+(ind)'. Simultaneously, SEW's INR0.5bn non-convertible debenture programme has been assigned a 'AA-(ind)' rating and its INR0.5bn commercial paper programme a 'F1+(ind)' rating.
